Position Summary

The General Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for adult patients with a broad range of mental health conditions. This role focuses on evidence-based medication management, ongoing clinical oversight, and collaborative care within a multidisciplinary team to support patient stability and long-term wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and mental status examinations.

  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.

  • Provide ongoing care for patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.

  • Collaborate with therapists, nurses, social workers, and primary care providers to coordinate patient care.

  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and clinical decisions in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Offer crisis intervention and support for patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms.

  • Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices and emerging treatment modalities.

  • Provide consultation to medical staff regarding psychiatric diagnoses, medications, and treatment strategies.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, patient safety standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.

  • Active and unrestricted state medical license (or eligibility).

  • DEA registration with appropriate schedules.

  • Strong diagnostic, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.

  • Experience in inpatient, outpatient, or integrated behavioral health settings preferred.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing a broad range of psychiatric conditions across diverse populations.

  • Familiarity with EMR systems and documentation best practices.

  • Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Work Environment

  • May include outpatient clinics, inpatient units, emergency departments, consult-liaison services, or telepsychiatry depending on organizational needs.

  • Schedule and call requirements vary by setting.
