Position Summary
The General Psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for adult patients with a broad range of mental health conditions. This role focuses on evidence-based medication management, ongoing clinical oversight, and collaborative care within a multidisciplinary team to support patient stability and long-term wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and mental status examinations.
- Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.
- Provide ongoing care for patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.
- Collaborate with therapists, nurses, social workers, and primary care providers to coordinate patient care.
- Document assessments, treatment plans, and clinical decisions in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Offer crisis intervention and support for patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms.
- Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices and emerging treatment modalities.
- Provide consultation to medical staff regarding psychiatric diagnoses, medications, and treatment strategies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, patient safety standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
- Active and unrestricted state medical license (or eligibility).
- DEA registration with appropriate schedules.
- Strong diagnostic, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
- Experience in inpatient, outpatient, or integrated behavioral health settings preferred.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience managing a broad range of psychiatric conditions across diverse populations.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and documentation best practices.
- Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Work Environment
- May include outpatient clinics, inpatient units, emergency departments, consult-liaison services, or telepsychiatry depending on organizational needs.
- Schedule and call requirements vary by setting.
Skills
